Ekg/Phlebotomy

The purpose of this course is to provide students with practical generic skills in the health occupations. After successfully completing this course students will be able to:

  • Demonstrates an understanding of and apply wellness and disease concepts
  • Effectivly describe cardiovascular system
  • Identify legal and ethical responsibilities of an EKG assistant
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, apply and use medical instrimentation modalities
  • Perform patient care techniques in the health care facility
  • Demonstrates phlebotomy practice and quality assessment basics
  • Ethical, legal, and regulatory issues in phlebotomy
  • Safety and infection control
  • Handle documentation, specimen handling and transportation
  • Blood collection equipment
  • Venipuncture procedures
  • Capillary blood specimens
  • Pediatric and Geriatric procedures
  • Special collections
  • Discuss legal and ethical responsabilities
  • Recognize and practice safety and security procedures
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations
